BVIS Tech: 2022 and Beyond!
It’s hard to believe that the end of the school year is nearly here, and I’ll be wrapping up my first year as the BVIS Technology Specialist for the state of Oregon. It’s been a busy (and very fun) school year! Let me count the ways...
BVIS iPad Refresh: The BVIS iPad collection is an important resource for Oregon students, but our existing collection was too old to support many functions. No longer! After consulting with teachers across the state, we’ve purchased 65 new iPads that will help us readily support the unique needs of every student.
Professional Development: So many PD sessions! Cricuts, Literacy, and CVI; Screen Readers and Word Processors; Digital Magnification Options; Adobe Illustrator and Tactile Graphics; Nemeth in Seconds; Microsoft, Google, and Document Accessibility; and, of course, the Braille Interface Training for the State Assessments.
BVIS Tech Time: A monthly meeting where TSVIs from across the state can discuss technology, ask questions, and share their wisdom with one another. These meetings were a great place to learn new tricks and to strengthen our connections across programs.
BVIS Tech Website: A new website with oodles of resources! Resources for hardware, software, accessibility, training materials, 3D printing, and so much more!
And of course, the best part of my job has been providing one-on-one support to Oregon TSVIs and other educators! It’s been such a pleasure working with you all this year, and I look forward to taking on new and exciting projects in the new school year.
If there’s something you would like to learn more about in the next year, I would love to hear your suggestions. Please feel free to contact me at mcantino@nwresd.k12.or.us.
Have a great summer!
